Literacy Volunteers of America @ the Bloomfield Public Library
LVA has an office in the Bloomfield Public Library. Call them directly at 973-566-6200, extension 217 or 225. LVA recruits and trains volunteer tutors; pre-tests, post-tests, and instructs adult students; provides continued in-service training to tutors; provides peer group seminars for students and tutors; and provides ongoing communication with the community it services. LVA provides supervision and continued training to volunteers and professional staff through a systematic process of communication, observation and evaluation.
TABE Test Practice in the Learning Link
The Learning Link One-Stop Center located beneath the Children's Dept on 90 Broad St, Bloomfield provides online training for the math and reading portion of the TABE test. They have 20 computers available. However, you cannot just drop in for help. The first step is to register at the One-Stop Center, 50 S. Clinton, East Orange, (973-395-8552) and be assigned a counselor. Then you will be given the TABE test. If you do not pass either the reading or math sections, you will be referred to the Learning Link here at the library in Bloomfield. All instruction is online and individual and is limited to math and reading. The One Stop Center here also helps job seekers with finding financial aid for vocational programs and resume preparation.
